Editing

Throughout the video, we have used transitions, so that each shot runs smoothly in to the next. When choosing which transitions to use, we knew we didn't want anything too tacky, as we wanted to keep a sense of realism in the video. We ended up using only 'Cross Dissolve', 'Additive Dissolve' and 'Dip to Black'. Examples of these are:

- Right at the beginning (00.01 - 00.03), where Oli is playing the guitar, we have used 'Cross Dissolve' to transition between a medium shot of Oli and his guitar and a close-up of his guitar. The reason for this was so that the audience would see the guitar and Oli playing it.

- We have used 'Dip to Black', between the two shots of the extreme close-up of the girl's eyes, and the extreme close-up of the girl's eyes when she's crying (00.31 - 00.33).. The reason for this was so that there would be more of a contrast between the two shots, and the transition would be much slower, so that there was more emphasis on the two shots.

- We used 'Additive Dissolve' between a shot of Jamie rapping on the rooftop and a shot of him rapping on stage (01.40 - 01.42). This was used to switch between the different locations, as we wanted to show the contrast between the two.

As well as using transitions available in the 'Effects' tab on Adobe Premiere, we have also used simple cutting, using the 'razor' tool, which allowed us to slice up a piece of footage. Using this tool, we used quick cuts in time to the music. This is most noticeable near the beginning, (00.20 - 00.24), where we cut between shots of Jamie from different angles and different lengths. These quick cuts were used to represent the lyrics, "My brain's insane. Vision is twisted", which is why the 360 degree shot was used in this part of the music video. This can be seen below.

Though we had the chance to, we didn't want to use too many effects on the music video, as we wanted to keep the music video realistic. The only effects we used, were to change the colour of shots, and the speed of shots.

- We increased the contrast on a lot of our shots, but mainly on the rooftop shots, as we wanted to emphasise the grittiness of the surroundings.

- We also changed the beginning scenes and the montage at the end to black and white. The reason for the beginning scenes to be black and white, was to emphasise the contrast between the scenes around the band's council estate, and their freedom of being on a rooftop and live on stage. The reason for the montage being in black and white, is so that the video comes in a full circle.

- One scene that we sped up a lot was the 360 degree shot of Jamie, during the lyrics 'Vision is twisted'. The reason for this, is that we wanted the visuals to match the lyrics, so that the audience's vision would be twisted.
