First Day of Filming

Today, we did our first day of filming, but before we left, we created a risk assessment for the day.

We filmed all the shots of the band on the rooftop of a car park and around their flats in Swiss Cottage. We met the band at their flats and walked across to the car park rooftop with them, where we asked the security guard for permission to film. He informed us that it would be alright, as not many cars park on the roof. We had asked the boys to wear what they would normally wear, as we wanted them to feel comfortable and to keep a sense of realism to the video. Before we started filming, we found that the dolly made the camera extremely bumpy when rolling along the concrete car park, so we improvised with the use of some cardboard that we found, and placed the dolly on this, for smoother filming.




We all contributed money for a portable cd player for the band members to be able to sing along to their song, 'I am Blessed'. While filming, we found that the cd player wasn't loud enough, so we placed it on a stool that we had found. Though it was still hard to hear the song, the use of the stool did help somewhat.







We shot Jamie Wallace rapping, and Oli Rose singing through the whole song, around 10 times in total, from many different angles, like close ups, wide angle shots, extreme close ups of Jamie's mouth and some low angle shots, so that when it came to editing, we had a choice of a wide range of shots and backgrounds that we could use. We shot the band members together and apart as well. We also filmed them when they were unaware, as we wanted our music video to have a sense of realism, and therefore wanted to show them acting naturally together.




We also filmed Jamie walking down the street outside their flats for the opening of the track, and while inside their flat, we saw that they had a balcony which looked out over Central London, and so decided to film Jamie rapping through the song once.

One problem that we found with filming outside was that it was extremely cold, and it got dark very quickly. This meant that we had to cut our filming short, and some of our footage is darker than the rest, though we can change the brightness on these shots, when editing. We probably spent about 5 hours filming, due to this.

On the whole, I felt like the band really helped us to make the filming a lot easier, especially Jamie, as he rapped to camera, as if it were an audience, which made the footage look a lot more professional. I also felt that, even though we had a few problems, like the fact that the dolly made the camera shaky on the gravel car park, we showed initiative in sorting the problems out there and then, as mentioned above.
