This image shows the equipment I used to create my music video. The hardware was probably more important than the software that I wrote about yesterday, as it always came first in the process, and without it, I wouldn't have even been able to film shots to edit.
1. DV Tape: This tape was used to capture all of our footage for the music video. As it was a new tape, all we had to do was slot it in to the appropriate place in the camcorder, which was extremely simple to do.
2. Canon DM-XL2 Mini DV Camcorder: We were given this to film the footage for our music video. As I had used the same camcorder last year in AS level to film my thriller opening sequence, it was quite easy to use.
3. Tripod Connector: This is a small rectangular plate found at the bottom of the camera, which then slides and connects in to another rectangular plate at the top of the tripod. The reason for this is that the camera is kept safe and stable on top of the tripod, while filming. This was probably the most difficult part of setting up the equipment before filming, as the camera was quite heavy.
4. Tripod: The tripod, as mentioned above, is used to keep the camera stable. The height can also be adjusted, depending on how high or low we needed the camera to be.
5. Dolly: The tripod is placed on to the dolly, by slotting the three legs of the tripod in to the three slots on the dolly. This was quite difficult for one person alone to do, so we had to work together to set this up. Once set up, the dolly was extremely helpful, as we were able to easily move the camera around as and when we wanted. However, as mentioned in a previous post, there were a few times that the ground made the dolly shake, meaning that the footage was shaky aswell.
6. Redhead: The redhead is the light that we used at the band's gig, so that we were able to see the band on camera, as mentioned in a previous post. It was very easy to use, as we just needed to plug it in.
7. Dual-screened computer: This computer was used to edit all of our footage on, and it was incredibly helpful having two screens, as we were able to clearly see what we were doing over a wider display. One problem with this computer was that it didn't have any internet or Paint on it, which meant that when I wanted to take screenshots of the music video for the blog or digipak, I had to move screenshots between computers on a USB stick.
8. DV Player: This machine was used to capture our footage on to the computer. All that we had to do was insert our tape in to the machine, and then use Adobe Premiere Pro, mentioned in yesterday's post, to capture the footage. This was a time-consuming process yet, as we had done it previously at AS level, it was quite simple to do.
9. Shortcut Keyboard for Adobe Premiere: This keyboard is used to edit on Adobe Premiere Pro, and was much more efficient to use than the mouse.
