1. This is an extreme close-up shot of a girl's eyes, while she is crying. An important part of creating a music video is linking the lyrics to the visuals, and in this part of the song, the lyrics are "See these eyes, they cry."
2. After researching other music videos, it became clear that rap artists' music videos include a lot of low angle shots, to show the rapper's status. Usually, they would also be wearing a lot of jewellery, and be surrounded by women, but the record company would probably not this for 'I Am One', as they aren't a stereotypical rap band. For this reason, a high angle shot is used, but Jamie is wearing his own everyday clothes, and is rapping alone.
3. Music genre is extremely influential on the style of music video created. 'I Am One' are a fusion of rap and guitar. The shot above shows Oli singing and playing the guitar, which portrays the genre of music to the audience
4. This shot is an extreme close-up of Jamie's mouth, as he is rapping. We included many interesting camera angles in our music video, including a 360 degree shot, close-ups and low angle shots. This gave much more variety to the video, making it much more interesting for the audience.
5. Lighting is extremely important to the success of filming, as it can completely change the atmosphere of a shot. Most of our music video was meant to be realistic, so we didn't use any lighting to get a specific effect. However, the shot above is during an 'I Am One' gig, where really dark stage lighting was used, meaning that we were unable to clearly see the band on camera. As mentioned in an earlier post, we had to use a red head at the back of the stage, so that we were able to see the band on camera, without blinding the band members at the same time.
6. Mise-en-scene is an extremely important part of our music video, as we wanted to show the band's hometown of London, and their council flat block. This shot was filmed on a car park roof, and the audience really get a sense of the grittiness of London, when they see the block of flats and the buildings in the distance. Jamie is wearing his own clothes as costume as well, which gives a sense of realism.
7. A lot of music videos have used many different people of different cultures holding signs to create a sense of togetherness and happiness, which is what inspired us to use this shot in our music video. An example of a music video that does this is 'Ugly' by Sugababes, a shot of which can be seen below.
8. Another convention of music videos is to stop the music so that dialogue is able to be heard. Though we haven't got a narrative in our music video, we have added some dialogue at the end, where the towncryer shouts "I am Blessed", which can be seen above. An example of a music video which does this is 'Telephone' by Lady Gaga and Beyonce, which can be seen here.
9. This shot is part of the montage at the end of our music video, which was inspired by the montage in 'Battleship Potemkin', as mentioned in an earlier post. This is a convention of film and music videos, which we have followed.
